Shirley Kawazoe Memorial APASA Scholarship

This award recognizes students who demonstrate leadership and a strong commitment to community service, promoting understanding across cultural differences, and advocating for social justice in the Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) communities.

Eligibility requirements at the time of submission–

MUST have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, successfully completed a minimum of 12 quarter units, and be currently enrolled in the 2023-2024 school year. Must provide evidence of community service and leadership, through volunteer (non-paid) activities either on-campus or in the broader, local APIDA community within the past 2 years. Must complete the supplemental questions.

Additional Information:

1) The award recipient will be expected to attend an APASA-sponsored recognition event planned in Spring 2024. Event date and details will be provided to recipients upon notification of award.

2) Applicant may NOT have previously received an APASA scholarship.

3) Open to all students regardless of ethnic or immigration background.

Supplemental Questions

In addition to the “My Story” essay, write an ADDITIONAL one-page essay, which describes A) Your leadership in or experience fostering cross-cultural awareness or promoting social justice in service to APIDA communities AND B) Include how your service activities have affected your educational and/or career goals. Please upload/provide evidence of community service and leadership, through volunteer (non-paid) activities either on-campus or in the broader community within the past 2 years. Please provide a reference who is familiar with your educational/career goals. Include a name, job title, and email of the recommender.
  • (Note- A letter of recommendation is not required when submitting the application but may be required during the screening process.)
