Foothill SLI STEM Internship Scholarship 2021: Physics/ Astronomy Internship
Through the Science Learning institute (SLI), 3 Foothill College students will have an opportunity to participate in a two quarter internship to work with a Foothill College astronomy instructor and UC Santa Cruz professor and research team in their virtual summer Science internship Program (SIP).
Spring quarter:
Work with Astronomy instructor Geoff Mathews on preparing for the summer internship as well as supporting his research. If you do not already know Python programming, you will learn that skill in the spring.
Summer: June 7 – August 13, 2021
The first two weeks of the internship involve training and special activities. The hours for this first two weeks will be variable and are flexible, knowing that you will still be in classes from the spring quarter.
The rest of the eight weeks is the full internship, averaging 25 hours each week. You will be an intern in the Science Internship Program (SIP) at UC Santa Cruz, on a research team with a professor and other students. The internship program is scheduled to be fully virtual for summer 2021 though this is subject to change. You can find out more about SIP at https://sip.ucsc.edu/.
