Foothill Global Experiential Learning Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Scholarship for the Spring 2024 Environmental Justice in Cuba Program
The Foothill Office of Global Experiential Learning is offering a minimum of two $1,000 scholarships in the form of a program fee reduction (no direct payment to the student) for Foothill students accepted into the Spring 2024 Environmental Justice in Cuba program. The purpose of this funding is to support students who have been traditionally underrepresented in study abroad, and to support the diversification of our Global Experiential Learning programs into the future.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Applicant must have an existing Foothill student ID, and be eligible to apply for Foothill-De Anza scholarships through Academic Works.
• Applicants must have submitted a Spring 2024 Cuba program application, including $100 program fee deposit, and be considered a “for-credit” student on the program (excludes not-for-credit Community Education applicants). Please see below for how to apply to the Cuba Program.
• Applicants must demonstrate financial need as determined by Financial Aid through the completion of a 2023-2024 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
• Applicants must identify with one or more of the following populations:
o First-generation college students
o Students from diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to: American Indian or Alaskan Native, African American or Black, Hispanic or Latino/a, Asian, Native Hawaiian, or other Pacific Islander
o Students with disabilities
o LGBTQI+ students
o Veterans
o Economically disadvantaged students
• In addition to the “My Story” essay, applicant should demonstrate their interest in the Spring 2024 Cuba program by submitting 300-400 word essay, indicating what motivated you to apply for this program, and how this scholarship would assist you to join the program.
The Cuba DEI Scholarship award will be contingent upon acceptance into the Cuba program, and full participation in the program. For more information about the Spring 2024 Cuba Program and to apply to the program students must first fill out a Preliminary Interest Form found on the Global Experiential Learning website (https://foothill.edu/global/2024cuba.html), and join a Canvas site where the application can be found. Expectations: Awardees of this scholarship must be willing to share their experiences abroad via blogs, pictures, and/or video, provide a testimonial at the end of their program (to be shared on the Foothill College and/or Foundation website), and be willing to attend on occasion (in person or remotely) outreach events for future Global Experiential Learning programs.

Selection process: Applications will be reviewed by a Foothill Global Experiential Learning Scholarship Committee. All applicants will be notified of results via email at the conclusion of the process.
