Foothill Deborah M. Dexter Scholarships in Science
Dr. Deborah Dexter is a retired instructor who taught marine biology at San Diego State for more than 30 years. She comes from a family who stressed the importance of education. At Stanford, she received a bachelor’s degree in biology and a masters degree in education and straight from there was accepted to the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill for her Ph.D. in zoology.
This scholarship is intended for a student working towards an associate degree and transferring to a four-year university in one of the core sciences, biology, chemistry or physics.
Must be a full-time students (12 units per quarter) working toward an associate degree and transferring to a four-year university in one or more of the following core sciences currently being offered: Biology, chemistry, or physics.
Must be majoring in biology, chemistry or physics
Must be enrolled in 12 units
Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5
Preference will be given to students who demonstrate any of the following:
o Financial need
o Community service on/off campus
o Interest in teaching science
